Organic food is the food produced with the use of natural fertilizers such as manure or compost, instead of artificially produced chemical fertilizers. No commercially made chemical insecticides are used during the production of organic food to control pests, but only natural predators such as arachnids and insects, along with good bacteria, fungi, and specialized farming practices. These facts, along with a few other health benefits, are just some of the reasons you should start eating organic food.
Contains fewer pesticides
Pesticides are basically poison, as they prevent pests and disease to attack the crops. Organically produced food is pesticide-free, which makes it much healthier for you than its non-organically made counterpart. After the standardly-grown food is picked out from the soil it isn’t cleaned, so the residue of chemical pesticides remain on it, which further leads to you consuming all the poison from those pesticides.
Richer in antioxidants
According to a study, antioxidant levels in organic plants can be up to 69% higher than in conventionally grown foods. Healthy organic food is likely to increase antioxidant content, which further helps the body protect cells from damage. Since it doesn’t depend on chemicals to keep the pests from attacking it, they produce their own protective compounds, i.e. antioxidants, and help your body and immune system stay strong.
Higher levels of healthy fatty acids
As research has shown, organic milk and meat contain about 50% more beneficial omega-3 fatty acids than those that are conventionally produced. Since Omega-3s are proven to reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular disease, healthy organic food is a much better choice than conventionally produced milk and meat. Furthermore, omega-3 fatty acids improve neurological development and function and improve immune function, which is another reason why you should have them in your diet.
It’s eco-friendly
Since farmers who engage in the organic production of crops and livestock don’t use artificially produced chemical fertilizers that deplete the soil’s health, their farming practices are environmentally friendly. There is minimum water, air, and soil pollution precisely because harmful chemicals are forbidden in organic farming, which makes it healthier for the environment and for you.
Protects you from various diseases
Just as people are vaccinated against several viruses, non-organically produced food is injected with various growth hormones, vaccines, and animal by-products. This means that you’ll be indirectly taking all those antibiotics, growth hormones and other harmful substances, which can eventually weaken your immune system. Therefore, organic food is much healthier for you, since it doesn’t contain any of harmful substances, making your immune system stronger. Opting for it could also prevent food-borne illness outbreaks. As several reported cases suggest, the crops and livestock that’s been injected vaccines and was fed on animal by-products can cause deadly drug-resistant infections when you eat the products made of those crops and meat.
Don’t risk weakening your immune system and exposing yourself to harmful poisons from non-organic products, but switch to organic food and improve your immune system, help the environment and enjoy every meal in peace.
