For many Indian families, Diwali means a packed calendar of visits, gatherings and traffic. Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts is offering another way to spend it this year. Under the name The Island Diwali, three of its Maldives resorts, Atmosphere Kanifushi, VARU by Atmosphere and RAAYA by Atmosphere, are each marking the festival in their own style, keeping the food and rituals that matter while swapping the city for the sea.
Atmosphere Kanifushi: a week of regional thalis
Kanifushi’s celebration is built around food. From 1 to 7 November, JUST VEG, the resort’s vegetarian restaurant, is serving a different regional Indian thali at lunch each day, so guests staying the week can eat their way across the country one state at a time. On 8 November, Diwali night, the festivities move to THE SPICE for a Grand Diwali Celebration with an Indian feast, live entertainment, music and festive lights.

VARU by Atmosphere: one big festive table
At VARU, Diwali is about a generous family meal. Lime & Chili is laying out a large Indian buffet with biryanis, curries, grills, street-food favourites, vegetarian dishes and desserts, served at an easy island pace.

RAAYA by Atmosphere: a celebration for the whole family
RAAYA turns the island into the party. Children can make their own diyas, families can create rangoli together, and a beach treasure hunt keeps younger guests busy. In the evening there is a traditional diya-lighting ceremony at RAAYA Life Beach, with festive drinks, followed by a Diwali-themed dinner buffet. The night ends at RAAYA Hub with a Bollywood DJ and dancing under the stars.
