From being a passionate athlete, hailing from the small town of Kollam, he went on to pave the way and inspire several sportsmen across the country. During a time when women’s boxing was almost unheard of in India, coach Chandralal not only succeeded in putting the Indian Women Boxers on the global boxing scene but also in helping the sport gain acceptance and recognition among the masses. D. Chandralal is recognized as one of the most important figures in the history of Women’s Boxing in India. He has helped the nation in consistently producing winners in world championships. In 2007, Chandralal was bestowed with the Dronacharya Award from the then-President of India. He was instrumental to creating 4 world champions for the country: Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Lekha K.C., and Jenny R.L. It has been announced that Chandralal will be conferred with Olympian Suresh Babu lifetime achievement award for the year 2021.
He works for a retail organization in Bangalore and heads it online and branding division. He is a foodie by passion and therefore tries his hand at stuff in his home kitchen. While not dabbling in cooking during his days off he likes his music and of course trying out food. He prefers home cooked cuisine though restaurant fare guarantees a good outing with friends.
