At Taj West End, Bengaluru, the countdown to Christmas has begun. The 139-year-old heritage hotel has held its annual Cake Mixing Ceremony, a much-loved tradition that marks the start of the festive season, bringing guests, patrons and friends of the hotel together in its century-old gardens.
A tradition passed down through generations
Aprons on and gloves ready, guests gathered around a long table heaped with dried fruits, handpicked nuts and fragrant spices, and mixed them together by hand. The mix will now be left to mature over the coming weeks before it is baked into the rich festive cakes served at Christmas and New Year.
The afternoon was as much about togetherness as tradition, with laughter, old-world charm and the lush setting of one of Bengaluru’s most storied hotels adding to the sense of occasion.

The start of the festive season
“At Taj West End, Bengaluru, we believe the most cherished festive traditions are those that bring people together through shared experiences and meaningful moments,” says Taronish Karkaria, General Manager, Taj West End, Bengaluru. “Our annual Cake Mixing Ceremony is a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship and the enduring spirit of the season.”
The ceremony opens the hotel’s festive calendar, with seasonal dining and celebrations planned through Christmas and New Year.
