The Sumadhura Centre Court Pickleball League opened to a packed and electric first night, with over 1,200 attendees turning up to witness Bengaluru’s first franchise-style pickleball league come to life.

Hosted by the Rally Renegades, the opening matchday delivered both on competition and atmosphere, with the home team clinching a strong 4–2 victory over Mana BMR Smash Club. The Renegades dominated across formats, winning four of the six ties – including both singles and mixed doubles – dropping only the two men’s doubles matches in an otherwise commanding performance. Led by captain Sharmada Balu and vice-captain Gowtham, the team combined composure with intensity to set the tone for the season.
The evening began with Southern Primes securing a 4–2 win over Nin9s, showing early dominance across men’s doubles, men’s singles, men’s doubles 2, and mixed doubles. Nin9s fought back strongly in the women’s doubles and women’s singles ties, but Southern Primes held their nerve to close out the fixture.
In the evening’s other fixture, Depot18 Chargers secured a 4–2 win over Net Ninjas, edging ahead through consistent performances across singles and women’s doubles, with the tie swinging on a couple of tightly contested games that kept the outcome alive until the final match.
But beyond the matches, it was the energy of the arena that defined the night. What began as a sporting event quickly evolved into a full-fledged experience – one that blurred the lines between competition, community, and culture. The arena stayed alive and buzzing well past 11:30 PM, with crowds fully engaged from the first serve to the final point.
A standout moment of the evening came during halftime, with a live performance by renowned tabla artist Ved Prajapati, whose set brought a unique rhythm and cultural depth to the sporting spectacle, turning the break into a highlight in itself.
Off the court, the experience extended seamlessly. Guests moved between matches and curated food and beverage spaces featuring Mezcalita, Monkey Bar, Mossant Craft Kombucha, and Minus 30, while Red Rhino beer and cocktails by Johnnie Walker kept the energy high throughout the night. A dedicated fan engagement zone, including a full-size pickleball court, allowed attendees–especially first-timers and younger audiences–to step in, play, and experience the sport up close.
The evening also reflected the league’s larger intent: to build not just a tournament, but a platform. In the lead-up, the Centre Court Challengers had already brought together over 60 players from across Bengaluru’s pickleball communities. That same spirit carried into opening night—where players, spectators, and newcomers all found themselves part of a shared, evolving sporting culture.
“Last night was exactly what we hoped this league would become—competitive on court, but just as alive off it,” said Yashwanth Biyyala, Co-founder, Centre Court Sports and Entertainment. “To see over a thousand people show up, stay through the matches, engage with the sport, and really own the space. It tells us that Bengaluru is ready for this. This isn’t just about pickleball. It’s more about building a sporting culture that people want to be part of.”
Backed by title sponsor Sumadhura Group, alongside partners including Labonel Fine Baking and Red Rhino, the league has positioned itself at the intersection of sport and lifestyle – designed as much for the spectator as for the athlete.
With strong opening performances, a packed venue, and an atmosphere that felt closer to a weekend festival than a conventional sporting event, the league has already signalled a shift in how pickleball will be experienced in Bengaluru.
As the season progresses across multiple matchdays, with each team hosting in turn, the Sumadhura Centre Court Pickleball League is set to build on this momentum – one rivalry, one crowd, and one matchday at a time. The next match day is May 1, 2026, with the home team being Nin9s.
See you on Centre Court.
