6 Tips for Better Feminine Hygiene & Personal Care

Hygiene is a very important part of our overall health. It doesn’t only make us feel good and beautiful, but it protects us from the bacteria and various illnesses we come in contact with daily. And if you’re wondering how to improve your self-care, here are some basic tips.

Oral care

Brushing your teeth regularly is a good way to maintain good oral health, so make sure you do it at least twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. However, if you can, brush your teeth after every meal, clean your tongue and floss at least once a day. Between brushing, use mouthwash for a fresh breath and make sure you have regular checkups with your dentist twice a year.

Facial care

You should make it a habit to wash your face when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed in the evening, avoiding aggressive products and opting for natural ones instead. Instead of soap and harsh facial scrubs, use lukewarm water and cleansers made particularly for your skin type. At the end of the day, don’t forget to remove your makeup thoroughly and clean your face after that. Tap your skin with a clean and soft towel to dry it and change your pillowcase at least once a week.

Hand hygiene

You should wash your hands often, several times a day, even if you’re at home. You should also wash them every time you use the bathroom, sneeze or cough, touch animals or cook. Also, if you’re out and touch things that others often touch, like money or door knobs, either wash your hands as soon as possible, or use antibacterial wipes or gel. When washing your hands, do it with warm water and soap, paying special attention to the skin between your fingers and underneath your fingernails. Clip your nails and shape them regularly, and when your hand skin is dry, use hand cream.

Intimate care

There are special kinds of soap and similar products for your vaginal and anal area, and you should use them daily to maintain good intimate hygiene. It’s also very important to wipe yourself well after using the toilet, front to back. If you don’t think that toilet paper provides you with sufficient hygienic care, there are bidet seats you can fit on top of your toilet bowl, that offer the same hygiene benefits as traditional bidets. When you’re on your period, you should change your pads or tampons three to six times a day, depending on the blood flow. If you decide to shave your bikini area or even your pubic hair, use a safety razor and be careful.

Bathing and showering

You should take a shower or a bath every day, since the sweat on your skin is food for bacteria, and causes the unpleasant smell everybody wants to avoid. Whether you do it in the morning or in the evening depends solely on your preferences and habits. If you’re physically active and sweat a lot, you should take another shower after your practice. When you bathe or shower, make sure you wash your feet, bottom and armpits well, using warm water and mild products, but only use warm water for your private parts. Wash your hair two or three times a week, using a shampoo that suits your hair type.

Your clothes

The clothes you wear should always be clean, made from breathable, natural materials like cotton and linen, and loose enough for you to feel comfortable. You should change your socks and underwear on a daily basis, and you should always wash them at a high temperature, to get rid of the bacteria on them. As soon as you notice your clothes are damp or wet from sweat, change them. Not only will you avoid odors this way, but also infections due to dirty and sweaty clothes against your skin.

Good hygiene is very important, for your health, as well as for your social status, since people with noticeably bad hygiene habits are often avoided by others. This is why your personal hygiene should always be one of your top priorities.
