National, May 20th 2021: Trivector Biomed LLP, a renowned brand in the Indian healthcare sector for introducing cutting-edge innovations in the IVF and Air Disinfectant domains, held a roundtable discussion on the raging subject of “SAR COV2, as an Airborne Infection.”
Trivector Biomed LLP, in collaboration with its foreign partner Novaerus, an Irish firm specializing in non-chemical air disinfection solutions, have been working together to bring awareness around Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) much before COVID-19. The two companies have been emphasising on the importance of air ventilation, particularly in hospitals (during COVID-19) to avoid further increase in HAIs cases and keep the indoor air quality in check.
This one-hour conversation was initiated by Dr. Rajvi Mehta, Microbiologist and Scientific Consultant to Trivector Biomed LLP, who explained how airborne transmission of infection happens. Carole Hallam, Dr. Niranjan Patil, and Dr. Milind Ubale shared their views on the subject matter, focusing on the transmission of illness through droplets and aerosols, the effectiveness of indoor air ventilation, and the methods used to combat this infection. The esteemed panelists further reflected on their views by showcasing a few case studies of their experience with various air disinfection devices and how it assisted them in reducing the infection.
During the discussion, Carole Hallam said, “Role of ventilation is very integral in cases where airborne transmission is causing greater damage as natural ventilation swifts the process in the eradication of viruses. Thus, for poorly ventilated spaces, it becomes all the more important to get air disinfectant unit in order to reduce the risk of airborne transmission. Also, ventilation should be considered at the time of structural design process itself that will go a long way in combating such situations.”
With the ongoing fight against COVID-19 and its newer variants, it has become imperative to keep the Indoor Air Quality under check. People are now more self-aware and conscious about general cleanliness, hygiene and sanitization to not just keep themselves germ-free but also various spaces and surfaces at the same time.
Carole Hallam concluded the session stating, “As we are still learning about SAR COV2, it is providing us with an opportunity to review and control the practices under infection control.”
