SOBHA-City-Thrissur-Lake-View

Bengaluru, 9 May 2022: SOBHA, one of India’s most credible and admired real estate brands, has now been recognized for its relentless efforts toward implementing sustainability practices in its projects. SOBHA City Thrissur, one of the most contemporary and iconic properties in Kerala is now recognised by the India Green Building Council (IGBC) as India’s first Net Water Positive (Platinum) operational project. The recognition further strengthens the company’s vision and continued focus on enhancing sustainable practices.

The mammoth 55-acre project has set a benchmark by meeting 100% of its freshwater requirement through rainwater, while irrigation needs are met with STP treated water with no dependence on groundwater or any other alternate sources. Additionally, around 20% of excess rainwater is given back to nature.

Born out of an idea envisioned by its founder Mr. PNC Menon way back in 2006, an artificial lake, spread over an approximately 6.5-acre of land was conceived in such a way that all the water needs for the township including landscaping are met without dependence on municipal water or other sources – even during water scarce seasons. This manmade lake was completely transformed into an architectural marvel by the SOBHA team, which now is the recreational open space and focal point, around which the entire property has been designed and developed.

SOBHA City Thrissur, a landmark destination provides a world-class living experience, offering conveniences and comfort for modern-day life. As an integrated project it hosts residential, retail and entertainment spaces with almost every amenity a contemporary project has to offer. This project conceived by PNC Menon, Founder Chairman of Sobha Group and Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, is also a prominent philanthropist, who has received several national recognitions.

Expressing his thankfulness, Mr Jagadish Nangineni, Managing Director, SOBHA Ltd. said, “This recognition by IGBC encourages us to further enhance our efforts towards a more sustainable planet. This is possible because of the passion and commitment of our people, immaculate planning and execution, which is the SOBHA DNA. Sustainability continues to be an important part of our focus and is reflected in all our projects and across our operations.”

Some highlights of the project include:

  • Lush green landscaped areas account for more than 30% of the project site
  • More than 40,000 native ornamental and fruit-bearing trees and shrubs of approximately 180 diverse species blend the landscape with the local vegetation
  • Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to treat 100% of sewage generated within the project that can be used for landscaping and flushing
  • Organic Waste Converter (OWC) to treat 100% of biodegradable waste – the compost generated is used as manure for landscaping

As an ongoing focus, amongst other sustainability initiatives, SOBHA has been carrying out multiple green initiatives through an extremely active CSR wing. Some of these include large waste management plants, solar power, cultivating vegetables, fruits and paddy and a power laundry that runs on a steam generator at Sobha Hermitage. As a policy all SOBHA locations are smoke-free while the CSR supported locations are plastic-free.
