Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has signed a Taj hotel in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, bringing its flagship luxury brand to one of India’s most important pilgrimage towns. The greenfield project is being developed in partnership with Setupuram Hotels & Resorts Private Limited.
About Taj Rameswaram
The 300-key Taj Rameswaram is being developed across 70 acres in phases and will include a wellness centre. The hotel will have two speciality restaurants, a lounge and a poolside bar, along with a banquet venue, convention spaces and meeting rooms for events and social gatherings. Recreational facilities will include a swimming pool, a fitness centre and a spa with multiple treatment rooms.
The location
The resort sits on the mainland with direct beach access, close to NH87 and the iconic Pamban Bridge. It serves as a gateway to Rameswaram and is within easy reach of the Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Rameswaram is connected to Madurai and Tiruchirappalli, and access to the town is improving with the widening of NH87 to four lanes, the redevelopment of the railway station and a proposed domestic airport in the region.
“Rameswaram is among India’s most prominent spiritual destinations, attracting travellers from across the country and overseas. With growing infrastructure and improving connectivity, the destination presents significant potential for religious, spiritual, leisure and MICE tourism,” said Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL.
Rajesh Jograj Bafna, Director, Setupuram Hotels & Resorts Private Limited, said, “We are delighted to partner with IHCL to bring the Taj brand to Rameswaram. This partnership marks an important milestone in our hospitality journey and we look forward to contributing to the region’s tourism potential.”
With this signing, IHCL will have 35 hotels in Tamil Nadu, including 16 under development. The company has been growing steadily in the state, and earlier signed a Ginger and a Vivanta hotel in Hosur.
