5 Things Women Should Know About Men - Photo by Luke Porter on Unsplash

Men are from Mars, and women are from Venus, but is there a way to look past the obviously different lifeworlds so we can understand each other better? This list proves so. Here are a couple of things women should know about men.

They aren’t exactly the best at reading between the lines

Reading people is something that comes naturally to women, but the same thing can not be said for the opposite sex. The reason for this lies in our evolutionary history. Back in the day, men would rely on their strength to survive. Women, on the other hand, needed to possess good social skills to do the same, which gives them a fair advantage in a modern dating world.

However, men aren’t exactly the best at reading between the lines, which often gets them in trouble. Ask any guy, and he’ll tell you he’d prefer you being direct instead of you hinting and expecting him to draw conclusions. Chances are, he will miss those cues. If he does, just remember this tip and try to be more emphatic and elaborate.

They also fear rejection

Rejection isn’t exclusive to either gender. That being said, men are more likely to get rejected than women in general. Think about it – when women go out, they’re almost guaranteed to receive some romantic attention with varying degrees.

Men, on the other hand, don’t have the same security of knowing that they will get the same kind of attention, whether they go out or chat online. In addition, men are the ones who are expected to make the first move, start a conversation, and take the lead in a relationship, which puts them in a difficult situation, because they never know when they’ll get hit with a no and have their hopes crushed.

They, too, care very much about their looks

When it comes to looks, guys may act like their appearance doesn’t really matter all that much to them, but don’t let their tough exterior fool you. In reality, guys are very attached to their looks, especially hair. It means to them as much as our makeup means to us – it’s their way of expressing themselves, and they’ll try all the different products until they find the right one, just like us.

So, if they’re looking to combat grease, they’ll look for the best shampoo and conditioner for oily hair they can find, and the same goes for any other hair problems such as dry scalp or dandruff. And while it’s true that most of them don’t have a drawer full of various hair and skin care products, that doesn’t change the fact that they care about their personal appearance just as much as we do.

They are pressured to be good with women

Men are expected to be confident, secure, and know how to approach women if they want to be deemed as ‘real men’ by other guys around them. However, this results in a great amount of pressure, especially for guys who aren’t as confident about themselves and fear that they might look ‘weak’ in the eyes of their friends.

Truth be told, women are in a far less complex position here since men are the ones who are supposed to do most of the work when it comes to dating and relationships. So, before you jump to the conclusion and write a guy off just because he hasn’t asked you out yet, give him a break – chances are, he’s still trying to find the courage to do so.

They’re expected to always be strong and independent

Growing up, we’ve seen a lot of movies where a damsel in distress gets rescued by a knight. Basically, we’re taught from a young age that it’s okay for women to be in need of help and there’s no shame in that. However, when it comes to men, the situation is quite different.

Men are expected to always be strong, independent, and project an image of a hero. While some are born with a natural charm and attract women without too much effort, others aren’t as fortunate. But because asking for help, especially when it comes to dating, is seen as a sign of weakness, their hands are pretty much tied here, so instead of having others help them improve as partners and later on, spouses, they’re pretty much left on their own.

Conclusion

After all that’s been said, it becomes clear that men aren’t the ones who always have the power. But if you take some time to learn about the pressures and insecurities they need to put up with, you’ll be able to understand them better, which will, in turn, increase your chances of succeeding when it comes to your dating life and relationships.
