Discover some of the unmissable things to do in Frankfurt:

1. Visit Römerberg
This iconic square is home to a host of delights, from picturesque mediaeval buildings to historic markets. At the heart of the Altstadt – Frankfurt’s old town – you’ll find the Römerberg, one of the city’s most familiar attractions. It’s home to the Römer, which has been in use as the city hall since the 15th century. The Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (Fountain of Justice), standing in the center of the square in front of the Römer, dates to 1543.

2. Climb the Main tower
The Main tower is the most iconic and distinctive building on the Frankfurt’s skyline. Also known as Helaba, it is the only skyscraper in Frankfurt that opens its doors to the public. Head to the tower’s observation deck that offers stunning panoramic views of the city. You can also experience diverse culinary highlights at the very highest level in the Main Tower Restaurant & Lounge located on the 53rd Floor of the Main tower. Whether for a business lunch in the afternoon, a romantic dinner with your loved one or an interesting evening with your business partners, it is one of the finest places in and above the city.

3. Visit the Museumsufer
From modern and unconventional to Goethe and his creative heirs: a large collection of museums is located on the banks of the Main River and that’s exactly why this area is now called the Museum Riverbank. Explore some unique exhibits in the famous museums like the Stadel, Goldkammer and the Filmmuseum.

4. Relax at the Palmengarten
Palmengarten is Germany’s largest botanic garden that spreads out over 54-acres. Take a lovely stroll and relax amidst the lush greenery and a variety of flora and fauna. Internationally renowned exhibitions and festive events offer an array of splendidly colourful programmes. Palmengarten also hosts musical performances and botanical shows.

5. Indulge in some shopping
Frankfurt offers abundant shopping opportunities for everyone! Whether it’s on the Zeil, the city’s main shopping promenade, the Goethestrasse, Frankfurt’s luxury shopping street, or the Fressgass, the main culinary street, it is sure to be a wonderful shopping experience. If you happen to visit the city during Christmas, head to the various Christmas markets, which attract shoppers from far and wide with their unique offerings.

6. Try the local cuisine
Frankfurt is well known for its culinary offerings. With its apple wine pubs, historic half-timbered houses and narrow alleyways, the district of Sachsenhausen stands for cosiness. A visit to the city isn’t complete if you haven’t tried the “Ebbelwei”, regional apple wine, and “Grüne Sauce”, a typical local sauce based on herbs.

7. Take a boat tour.
Admire the city and the skyline from a very different perspective. Hop on aboard one of the many cruise ships and take in the beautiful sights of the metropolis from the River Main. The best time to take a river cruises in the evening, when the city lights illuminate the skyline.

Tickets available at the Frankfurt Tourist Information Offices, the riverside ticket booths and online via the websites of the respective cruise lines.
